In our Gospel topic, we have been asking the question, 'What would Jesus do?' This question is used by many Christians as a guide for how they should live their lives, with evidence coming from the example of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels. We asked what Jesus would do regarding many issues that concern us in the world today, including ill health, finally asking what Jesus would do with regards to his enemies.
We were interested to learn the story of Corrie Ten Boom, a Dutch woman who grew up as a Christian and made great sacrifices in order to help Jewish families during the Second World War. She was imprisoned in a concentration camp, where members of her family died, yet later in life was able to offer forgiveness to one of the prison guards who she met on a speaking tour.
Inspired by her story, we designed symbols of forgiveness, many of which are now displayed in our classrooms.
